A guide to Free Internet Marketing and Professional Marketing Advice
Finding Top Blogs On Any Topic
If you’re looking for the top blogs on the internet, then you should narrow down your topic before you start hunting. Whether you’re looking for entertainment or news, pets or books, or seeking sports blogs or those dealing with personal finance, there’s going to be something there for you. As long as you’re not too vague about what you’re looking for, there will be a website that can point you in the right direction.
Technorati is one of the sites that keep track of blogs, and it makes a list of what it considers the 100 top blogs that people visit. You can sort the list by the number of fans the blog has, or by authority. The former criterion is self-explanatory, but by “authority,” the site means the number of other sites that link back to that particular blog. If the Huffington Post blog is at the top of the authority list, that means more people in the blog-o-sphere currently link to it than to blogs farther down. More people consider it an authority in some way.
Technorati ranks blogs on its Top 100 list irrespective of topic, but also creates lists under individual topics. Wikio does things in a similar way. On its “Top Blogs – Politics” list, you might find the Huffington Post again at the top. Following blogs would each display a pointing arrow indicating whether they are trending upward or downward on the list. This might indicate which blogs have better covering of the top stories of the day. The Daily Reviewer site also lists blogs by categories, but it allows you to subdivide those into more specific topics.
You might try search engines for more specific subjects like recipes or personal finances, although finding a reliable list might be less easy. If you’re directed to a site that hasn’t been updated since 2007, it won’t do much good. However, such sites as MyBlogLog or BlogCatalog list member blogs according to interests, and if you read some of those, you’ll find recommendations for others. So you can compile your own personal list of top blogs on your favorite topics, or rely on larger sites like Technorati or Wikio for a broader range. Either way, you’ll have plenty of up-to-date reading on virtually any topic you want.
